INSIDE THE HARBOR FINISHES
1. RULES
This series will be governed by the 'rules' as defined in the Racing
Rules of Sailing 2001-2004 and the KHYC 2004 Twilights Notice of Race
except as any of these are altered by these Sailing Instructions.
2. ENTRIES
2.1 Yachts may be entered by completing registration with the host Club.
2.2 Yachts must sail by the Race Committee boat and be recognized in order to rank as a starter.
3. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
Notices to competitors will be posted on the regatta notice board located at KHYC.
4. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS CHANGES
Changes in the Sailing Instructions will be posted prior to one hour of the start of the first
race on the day it will take effect.
5. SCHEDULE OF RACES
Schedule of races is described in Notice of Race.
6. CLASS DESIGNATIONS
Class designations are described in the Notice of Race.
7. THE COURSE
7.1 All courses will be selected from KHYC
COURSE CHART 2004 TWILIGHTS.
7.2 Course signals will be displayed from the Race Committee boat by placard at the Warning
Signal for the next Class to start.
7.3 The white mid-channel buoy, "W", at the harbor entrance is a mark of the course and
shall be passed to port.
7.4 A spinnaker sheet or halyard shall be released prior to rounding the white mid-channel buoy
at the harbor entrance and spinnakers must be dropped promptly. See 7.5
7.5 Subtract 0.5 NM from course distances for finishes at the harbor entrance. Spinnakers may be
carried to the finish line for finishes at the harbor entrance.
8. START
8.1 Races will be started in accordance with Racing Rule 26 with Classes starting in the sequence
described in the Notice of Race.
8.2 The starting line will be between an orange flag on the Race Committee boat and an orange
flag in the water in the vicinity of "S" mark.
8.3 A yacht whose Preparatory Signal has not been made shall keep clear of the starting area and
of all yachts whose Preparatory Signal has been make.
8.4 A yacht shall not start more than 4 minutes after her Starting Signal has been made.
9. RECALLS
9.1 Individual recalls will be signaled in accordance with Racing Rule 29.2. The Race Committee
will not hail sail numbers.
9.2 General recalls will be signaled in accordance with Racing Rule 29.3. The starts for
succeeding Classes will be delayed accordingly.
9. THE FINISH
9.1 The standard finish line will be between an orange flag on the Race Committee boat standing
off the rigging docks and the red Nunn buoy (channel marker 8) in front of KHYC. The adjacent white
mid-channel buoy is a mark of the course and must be taken to port. Yachts are advised to use
caution in the finish area and display courtesy to all boat traffic within the harbor.
9.2 If in the judgment of the Race Committee, it would be unsafe to race to the standard finish
line described above, the course will be shortened without notice. The alternate finish line will be
at the harbor entrance between an orange flag on the Race Committee boat and the red Nunn buoy. This
alters Rule 32.1.
10. PENALTY SYSTEM
The 720-degree turn penalty is replaced with a 360-degree turn penalty, to include one tack and
one jibe, modifying Rules 44.1 & 44.2. Rule 44.3 shall not apply.
12. PROTESTS
Protests must be on written forms available at the host Club and filed within 30 minutes after
the RC boat docks. Protests will be heard as soon as possible after the conclusion of each race.
13. SCORING
The Low Point Scoring system will be used. See Notice of Race.
