Night Watch 2011

 

 


Purpose:

The Night Watch Fleet is open to all women who are able to meet in the evening and who are interested in enhancing their nautical skills, in fellowship with other King Harbor women, in service projects to KHYC, and in having fun.

Meetings:

We would like to extend an open invitation to any woman who may be interested in joining our fleet. We routinely meet on the first Tuesday evenings of each month. Potluck dinner at 7:00 pm, followed by a brief meeting and program. Please feel free to contact us for more information, or if you would like to join the Night Watch Fleet.

We have a great line up of programs this year as we start off at our February meeting with Captain Brenda Wepner of ASA describing her experiences with cruising, teaching and racing sailboats!

In March, Sandy Trautwein, Curator of Fish and Invertebrates at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach presented her crab research as a doctoral candidate at UCLA as well as told us some fun facts about the the latest at the aquarium.
 

In May we will have Robin Stout

Robin grew up in a boating family and lives on “Mermaid” a 51 foot sailboat. She cruised Mexico and the South Pacific with her husband kids and dog; filmed a segment for Latitudes & Attitudes TV, Robin became and “Outfitter” for West Marine, then Production Manager for Latitudes & Attitudes Magazine. She is editor of Living Aboard Magazine. Robin is refitting Mermaid for another cruise. Robin is also an avid racer in local, national and international competitions. She sails at KHYC on “Dark and Stormy”. She was a workshop presenter at this years Women’s Sailing Convention in February with a workshops entitled “Outfitting You and Your Boat for Cruising“ and “Telling Your Sailing Story“.

Special Events and Activities:
We support many of the Club’s activities throughout the year. NWF participates in Clean-up Weekend, Opening Day, Sea Fair and the Christmas Boat Parade. Other special events and activities outside the regular meeting programs include Movie Nights, Oscar Party, Progressive Dinner, Sunset Sails, She Devil Regatta and trips to the Hollywood Bowl. This is a great group who likes to enjoy a variety of interesting activities!
